皆さん、ポストカード買いますか？手紙は書きますか？
私は大のポストカード、切手好きです。
どこかに行く度にご当地ポストカードや切手を買い漁り
その土地から買ったポストカードに手紙を書いて出します。
家族や友人、そして自分自身に充てて書きます。
海外からのポストカードは、届かないこともあります。
すご～く時間がかかって届くこともあります。
以前イタリアから出したポストカードは1年半後に日本に届きました。笑泣
受け取るまではすっかりポストカードの事を忘れていますが、
文章を読んだ瞬間、その当時の景色や食べ物、思いでが鮮明に思い出されます。
一人タイムカプセルのようで、なんだかたまりません。笑
届かなかった時間、この子（ポストカード）はどこで何をしていたのかに思いをはせるのも
愛おしいです 笑
メールで簡単に写真やメッセージが送れるご時勢ですが
現地でしか買えないポストカード、貴重な風景写真やイラストに
直筆で文字を書く。切手を貼る。郵便局に出しに行く。
携帯で打つ時よりも、確実に相手の事を【想う】気持ちが乗っかるのです。
また、ポストカードは軽く、薄いのでお土産や記念品にも最適です。
さて、東ティモールでも ポストカードに手紙を書いて出す気満々だったのですが、
まず、ポストカードが全然売ってない。
そしてコロナ禍で郵便も届くか怪しい・・

自分のポストカードを作って売るのが夢の一つだったので、
せっかくのチャンス！実行することにしました。
最初はコーヒーの説明と、東ティモールの概要を書いたものを作成し、
お土産のコーヒーなどに添えて、日本の一時帰国時に友人に配ったり、送ったりしました。
これが結構好評だったので、色々なシリーズの作成に取り掛かりました。
ネタは今まで行った国で購入したものからインスピレーション受けたもの、
私自身がこうゆうのが欲しい、と思ったもの、友人達からのリクエストなどなど。
地図、ミニバス、伝統家屋やコーヒー、タイスの織物、魚‥色々なデザインを作らせて頂きました。
一番は 東ティモールらしさ、東ティモールの魅力が伝わること、を
意識しました。
伝統織物タイスの柄を入れることもこだわりの一つです。
東ティモールという国に触れることがない方々が
ポストカードのイラストから興味を持ってくださるといいな、と思っています。

販売させて頂いています。
2023年から個人的に販売を開始し、現在１５００枚以上売れている計算になります。
（本当にありがたいです！）
時々個人注文も入ります。お話を聞いてみると、
ポルトガルやアメリカなど、様々な国にお土産やメッセージカードとして選んでくださる方がいることに、大変感激と感謝です。
購入費から制作費用等を除いた分は全てNGOや団体へ寄付をさせて頂いています。
小さいもので、小さい額ですが、
小さなことに大きな愛をこめていきたいと思います。

Do you all buy postcards?
Do you write letters?
I'm a huge fan of postcards and stamps.
Every time I travel somewhere, I hunt for local postcards and stamps, and I write letters on the postcards I buy and send them from that place.
I write them to my family, my friends, and even to myself.
Postcards from overseas don’t always make it.
Sometimes they take a very long time to arrive.
One postcard I sent from Italy took a year and a half to reach Japan. 😂😭
By the time it arrived, I had completely forgotten about it, but the moment I read the letter, the scenery, food, and memories from that time came flooding back.
It's like a personal time capsule—something about it just really moves me. 😆
Even imagining what the postcard was doing and where it was during all that time is... kind of endearing. 😄
These days, we can easily send photos and messages by email or phone, but writing by hand on a locally purchased postcard— featuring rare landscape photos or illustrations you can only find there— adding a stamp, and going to the post office to mail it...
It all carries a far stronger sense of thoughtfulness than typing on a phone.
Also, postcards are light and thin, making them perfect souvenirs or mementos.
Now, in Timor-Leste, I was totally ready to write and send postcards too, but first of all—there just weren’t any postcards for sale.
And with the pandemic, it was questionable whether the mail would even get delivered...
So I thought, “If they don’t exist, why not make them?”
It’s actually been a dream of mine to create and sell my own postcards, so I decided to take this rare opportunity and go for it.
At first, I made cards with information about coffee and an overview of Timor-Leste, and handed them out or sent them with souvenir coffee to friends when I temporarily returned to Japan.
They were well-received, so I got to work creating different series.
The themes came from postcards I’d bought in other countries, ideas I personally thought “I’d love something like this,” and even requests from friends. Designs included maps, minibuses, traditional houses, coffee, tais (traditional woven fabric), fish, and more.
What I focused on most was making sure they conveyed the uniqueness and charm of Timor-Leste. Including tais patterns became one of my special touches.
I hope people who’ve never had any contact with Timor-Leste might become curious about the country through the postcard illustrations.
As of 2025, the postcards are being sold at Letefoho Specialty Coffee Roaster Café in Timor-Leste.
Since I began personal sales in 2023, over 1,500 cards have been sold so far (I’m truly grateful!).
I also get occasional individual orders.
Hearing people tell me they chose the postcards as gifts or message cards for loved ones in places like Portugal or the U.S. honestly fills me with joy and gratitude.
All proceeds—after deducting production costs—are donated to NGOs and organizations.
It may be a small amount from a small project,
but I hope to continue pouring great love into small things.
So—why not try writing and sending a postcard yourself?
