Environmental Education Picture Book

In Timor-Leste, there are few teaching materials and picture books in the local language, tetun.

JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteer and Environmental Education Volunteer Arisa Minori created this book with a strong desire to create a picture book in tetun. 

Pinta Timor Lorosae（Naoko　Takaku） was in charge of the illustrations.

We hope that this picture book will be read by many children in Timor-Leste, and that it will inspire them to think about environmental education.

Aqua is a 10-year-old girl living in East Timor.

While on a picnic by the sea, she throws away a plastic bottle she's finished drinking from. Suddenly, the ocean flashes brightly and she was transforms into the bottle she discarded!

After meeting a crocodile at the bottom of the ocean and hearing about the marine environment, Aqua learns for the first time what happens to plastic bottles discarded in the ocean...
